Themeasure of 72-hour visa-free transit  for Foreign Nationals from 51 countries destined for a third country (region) with booked connecting flight at the ports of Beijing,Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Shenyan, Dalian, Xian and Guilin (use “7 cities”  for short below).

During the 72 hour visa-free period, the passenger is allowed to move around within the precincts:

A1:
1) Citizens from 51 countries under the 72-hour Transit Visa ExemptionProgram;
2) Foreign travelers with valid international traveling documents and airticket for a connecting flight with confirmed date of flight and seat for athird country (region) traveling within 72 hours;
3) Transit passengers from the international airport of 9 cities for a thirdcountry (region).

Q2:What countries may apply for the 72-hour visa-free transit?
A2:Travelers from the 51 countries:
1) 24 Schengen countries in Europe: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic,Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy,Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherland, Poland, Portugal, Slovak,Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
2) 13 other European countries: Russia, Great Britain, Ireland, Cyprus,Bulgaria, Romania,  Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina,Republic of Montenegro, Macedonia, and Albania.
3) 6 American countries: The United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico,Argentina and Chile.
4) 2 Oceania countries: Australia and New Zealand.
5) 6 Asian countries: Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei,United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

Q3: How travelers apply for China 72 hourvisa-free?
A3:
1) Apply directly to China border controlauthorities when arrival.
2) Ask the airline which carries you onthis trip to apply for you.

Q4: If a traveler booked an air ticket forflying back to the same country where he/she comes from within 72 hours, canhe/she get 72-hour visa-free?
A4: No, he/she could not get 72-hour visa-freein China. Traveler should have an air ticket to third country, not the samecountry.
For example, a passenger from New York, USAbooked an air ticket to Los Angeles, USA via Beijing could not get a Beijing 72-hour visa-free transit.

Q5: Can travelers leave movement precincts toother cities in China? If travelers cannot leave China within 72 hours due to some special reasons after entry, what to do?
A5: No, travelers should move within theprecincts, cannot go to other cities in China. If travelers need to go to othercities in China for some special reason, he/she must apply for a visa from theexit-entry administration department of 7 cities.
For Example, a traveler get 72-hourvisa-free transit issued by Beijing International Airport, his/her movement precincts should only be inBeijing, not Shanghai, not Guangzhou, Not any other cities like Xian, Guilin.
If travelers cannot leave within 72 hours,the travelers must apply for a visa from the exit-entry administration departmentof 7 cities as required by law.
If travelers do not apply for the requiredvisa, he/she shall be dealt with the law for illegal residence in China. AndChina border control authorities will deny his/her 72-hour visa-free applicationagain.

Q6: If traveler enter China with the 72hours transit visa exemption issued by Beijing International airport, canhe/she leave China from airport in Shanghai, Guangzhou or other 72-hourvisa-free airport?
A6: No. The traveler do not allow to leave the issuedcity, he/she should leave China from the same airport as issued within 72hours.

Q7: Can a traveler enter China at theBeijing West Train Station and then leave by air from Beijing Internationalairport within 72 hours?
No. The measure is only at the international airport of 9 cities, so the traveler should enter and exit China viaairport.

A9: No. it has been stopped. Only 72 hoursvisa-free transit could be apply in Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao Airport.
