Travel Permit for entering Tibet
Non-Chinese passport holders (including those of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and other countries) should get a Travel Permit for entering Tibet in advance. Otherwise, they would be refused by the inspections on their way to Tibet. Furthermore, only then can you obtain the permit required to buy an air ticket in to Tibet.
There are two kinds of Travel Permits:
- The entry permit (TTB permit)
- The Alien's travel permit (PSB permit)

How to Get the Travel Permit?
When you arrive in Lhasa or any city in Tibet, you will need to show Tibet travel permit at the airport or railway station. Furthermore, whenever you buy a flight or train to Lhasa you need to show this permit.
For helping you to apply the Tibet travel permit, we need the following information.
- full name appears on the passport;
- gender;
- date of birth;
- passport number & copy of passport;
- nationality;
- occupation;
- Visa No. & copy of Visa.
Special Note:
- Please be sure all exactly the same as on your passport.
- All kinds of people can get Tibet permit through a travel agency except diplomats, journalists, and government officials who should travel to Tibet under the arrangement by the Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet Government.
- Service charge by the government to get the Tibet permit is 7 US dollars per person. This is incl. in the tour package we quoted to you.
- You need to apply for the travel permit at least 10 days prior to your entry date. Please provide all the necessary documents to us at your earlist time. Because it is also requested to show Tibet travel permit while booking flight tickets or train tickets.
- We don't provide "permit-only" service. We only help the clients who book Tibet tour from Discover China Tours.
- Multi-entry travel Permits are not available.
Sightseeing
Having been protected, some of the scenic spots in Lhasa set a limitation to the amount of daily tourists. And there is regulation of sightseeing time at Potala Palace and Jokhang temple, which is only one hour.
Hotel and Tour Guide
The service and facilities of the hotels in Lhasa and the whole Tibet are not so good than those of hotels in inland for some external reasons. And many local tour guides can not speak English and Mandarin very well. Please show your understanding.
Others
The local people are very sensitive to political topic because of the specialty of Tibet. So tourists should try to avoid talking this kind of topic with guide and show your respect to the local custom and life habit.
