6 Days Silk Road Ruins Discovery Tour to Dunhuang and Xian

Day 1: Meet you in Liuyuan Trains Station and transfer you to Dunhuang downtown. Leisure for the rest of the day by yourself.

Program:

Upon your arrival at Liuyuan Train Station/ Dunhuang Train Station / Dunhuang Airport, your guide will meet you there and transfer you to your hotel in downtown Dunhuang.

Day 2: whole day sightseeing to Mogao Grottoes, Crescent Moon Lake and Mingsha Hill.

Program:

In the morning, have a half day tour to Mogao Grottoes. Morning is the best time to see the miraculous Grottoes if weather permits. Owing to its location, you can have a better view with the sunlight in the morning. Before entering the grottoes, you’ll see two movies about the history and introduction about the closed grottoes. Then take a shuttle bus to visit Mogao Grottoes.

And then, visit to Mingshan Hill and Crescent Lake. Watching the sunset via camel ride is highly recommended. At night, enjoy yourself exploring the Shazhou Night Market.

-The Mogao Caves: Constructed over a millennium, from the 4th to the 14th centuries, the caves hold the world's richest treasure house of Buddhist sutras, murals and sculptures.

-Ringing-Sand Mountain: It lies six kilometers south of Dunhuang Proper.When one slides down the hill the friction causes a whistling sound.

-The Crescent Lake: The lake is 6km south of the center of Dunhuang at the Singing Sand Mountains, where the oasis meets the desert. Spring water trickles up into a depression between huge sand dunes, forming a small, crescent-shaped pond.

**Note:

1. In summer, it is really hot at noon, so we will take a rest and star our program to Mingshan Desert Hill and Crescent Lake at 4:00 - 5:00 pm.

2. In peak season, especially the summer vacation (July and August), lots of visitors go to Dunhuang, and Mogao Grottoes only have 6000 tickets one day, so we suggest you to book this package at least 30 days in advance of your travel date, in case to get a entrance ticket to Mogao Grottoes which is the highlight of this program.

Day 3: All day discovery to Silk Road Ruins around Dunhuang: Yumen Pass, Great Wall in Han Dynasty, Hecang Fortress and Yang Pass.

Program:

You will start the day with a visit to Yumenguan (Yumen Pass), the Great Wall in Han Dynasty, the Hecang Fortress and Yang Gate (Yang Pass).

-The Hecang Fortress: hidden in the Gobi Desert twenty kilometers from Yumenguan Pass at the west, was originally the important quartermaster depot.

-Yumenguan: Yumenguan lies about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Dunhuang. Its name came from the fact that jade from Hotan in Xinjiang entered Central China through this pass.

-Yangguan: Yangguan lies 75 kilometers (47 miles) southwest of Dunhuang but consists of only the ruins of a high beacon tower. It s named Yangguan because it borders the southern part of Yumenguan Pass.

Day 4: You will take an early flight from Dunhuang to Xian. After arrive Xian, Visit Ancient City Wall, Bell Tower and Shaanxi Provincial Museum.

Program:

check out and take an early morning flight to Xian. Upon arrival at Xian, Be met and transferred to the hotel. After lunch, enjoy your half day tour to visit the City Wall, Bell Tower and Shaanxi Museum.

-The Ancient City Wall: An extension of the old Tang Dynasty structure boasting the most complete city wall that survives through Chinese long history.

-The Bell Tower: The emblem of Xian city.
- Shaanxi History Museum: One of the main museums in China which holds numerous unearthed cultural relics of China.

Day 5: Today's program include: Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses.

Program:

In the morning, we visit the most well-known landmark of Xian, Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses. After lunch, return the downtown area and visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

-The Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses: The greatest archaeological findings of the century: the army of Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses the bronze chariots entombed in vast underground vaults at emperor Qin s tomb.
-The Wild Goose Pagoda: The pagoda where widely renowned Master Xuanzang (Monk Tripitaka) stored his classics brought from India.

Day 6: Leisure until be transfer to Xian Airport for your next destination. End of Service.
