After three years preparation, China’s new travel agency liability insurance scheme was formally enacted on 1st January, 2010.

With this new travel agency liability insurance, it would be easier for tourists to claim compensation for accidents that occur during their travel.

Under the new scheme, tourists can get compensation of up to CNY 1,000 for domestic travel while the overseas tourists can get no more than USD500 directly from the tour guide or the team leader. However, there was a complicated process tourist should go through ago.

About 11 kinds of liabilities, including traffic accidents and food poisoning, will be covered in this new insurance scheme. Also it has added five additional insurance items to the traditional items, which makes it possible for tourists to claim compensation in case of flight delays or itinerary cancellation caused by natural disasters, infectious diseases, or flight control actions by government agencies.
