Beijing to Develop 62 Tourism Valleys in Five Years

In order to meet the varied needs of Beijing citizens, Beijing is planning to develop tourism in 62 valleys with different characteristics in five years.

According to the deputy director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Rural Affairs, Mr. Chen Tao, there are many valleys in Beijing’s mountainous areas, and 2,053 of these are over one kilometer in Length, and of these 124 are worthy of development. Under several years of development, 17 valleys are now well-known places for Beijing citizens to spend holidays: including Buyegu in Huairou, Yunmeng Avenue in Miyun, and Meiguigu in Mentougou.

The commission is planning to develop 62 valleys in five years with distinct characteristics. There will have proper sewage treatment and solid waste disposal facilities during the development period to protect the environment.  

The first seven valleys selected from the mountainous areas will be public bidding in 2010.
