Macau to Develop World Heritage Core Area

In order to develop its World Heritage core area, Macau SAR government will re-plan the old town around the ruins of St. Paul’s to maintain its historical and cultural value and to improve the quality of its tourism offerings.

The historic center of Macau was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2005. It includes of more than 20 historic buildings connected by squares and streets, with the ruins of St. Paul's as the core area of this World Heritage Site.  

It is reported that the ruins of St. Paul's will be connected with key scenic spots nearby to build a comprehensive World Heritage travel network. The spots will include: the ruins of St. Paul's district, featuring cultural and educational tours; the Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro and O Porto Interio district featuring shopping; the Camoes Garden and Grotto district featuring dining; and the Tap Seac-St. Lazarus Parish district featuring creative arts.
