The Chinese Lunar New Year falls during the last week of January, which is about two weeks earlier than previous years. Over the weekend, a temple fair kicked off at the Yuyuantan Park, welcoming visitors from near and far.

The park is suffused with festive atmosphere. There are lanterns in various shapes and colors, and more than sixty different kinds of traditional snacks for visitors, both young and old.

A visitor said, "The flavor of a new year is all around. I´m very happy."

Apart from the traditional snacks available at the temple fair, organizers also set up a stage for those who are eager to show off their talents.

A visitor said, "We are all visitors, not professionals. We enjoy singing along in this interactive atmosphere. I´m quite happy."

One theme of this year´s temple fair at the Yuyuantan Park is "Golden Harvest". Fruits and other products from a dozen provinces around the country are on display.

"The pear tastes very sweet. I know it´s from the Daxing district in the southern outskirts of Beijing," said a visitor.

The Yuanyuantan Temple Fair is among the first batch of events to kick off during the Chinese lunar new year season. Organizers say a lot more entertainment shows are scheduled to take the stage during the Spring Festival holiday.
