Chongqing People´s Great Hall is situated at Xuetian Wan, Renmin Road,Chongqing and covers an area of 66 thousand square meters with a 4,000-seat auditorium. It was built in 1951 and finished in April 1954.
The whole building was designed based on traditional Chinese architecture that was in fashion in Ming, Qing Dynasty. The round roof with its green glazed tiles makes the building looks like the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, the porch in front of the hall with its red columns and white marble rails reminds people of the Tian´an Men gate in Beijing. Now, in front of the Great Hall a large square decorated with lawns, fountains and lights was built. The peoples´Great Hall is considered the emblem of Chongqing.
