Elephant Trunk Hill is located on the west bank of the Li River by a small branch called Peach blossom River. Elephant Trunk Hill is regarded as the symbol of Guilin landscape.
The hill resembles a huge elephant standing on the bank of the river, sucking up water with its long trunk. The trunk is particularly striking and lifelike when viewed either nearby or afar. Between the trunk and the legs of the elephant is a cave, in the shape of a full moon, penetrating the hill from side to side. People named it "Water Moon Cave".
Features
As the symbol of Guilin, Elephant Trunk Hill is the main scenic spot of the Elephant Trunk Hill Park, which also includes Yunfeng Monastery (a building with ancient style), Aiqing Dao (Love Island) and so on.
When the water waves and the moonlight gleams, the scene is exceedingly enchanting. On the top of the hill stands a pagoda named Puxian Pagoda built in the Ming dynasty (1368AD-1644AD), it is 3-story high and looks like the handle of a sword.
