Harbin today is largely an industrial city but improving relations with Russia have resulted in flourishing trade and a miniboom in cross-border tourism. The vast majority of foreign faces on the streets are Russian;the Chinese call them lao maozi(hairy ones).They will no doubt call you this as well, or speak to you in Russian, whether you are Russian or not.
