Mount Lushan, in Jiangxi, is one of the spiritual centers of Chinese civilization. Lushan is a horst style fault block, which integrates mountain, river and lake into one unit. It combines strategic mountain with beautiful scenery.
It is famous worldwide for its grandeur, queerness of shape, perilousness and elegance. The distinctive Lushan culture has important scenic and aesthetic values. The Lushan scenic area extends over 302 sq km,being protected by an outlying zone of 500 sq km. In Lushan we find unique glacial remains of the Quaternary Period containing varying landforms-river, lake, hillside field and mountain peak.
Lushan is known as a geological park. Buddhist and Taoist temples, along with landmarks of Confucianism, where the most eminent masters taught, blend effortlessly into a strikingly beautiful landscape which has inspired countless artists who developed the aesthetic approach to nature found in Chinese culture.
Features
Summer is cool in Lushan, where mist and cloud occur frequently. The vegetation reveals features of the Tertiary Period in China. The Lushan Botanical Garden, set up in l934,is an important base for the protection and migration of plants species in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangze river.
There are 17l categories of birds. Over l million migratory birds(receiving state protection)spend every winter in Poyang Lake, among which the white crane is the largest flock of gregarious birds, making up 95% of the total white crane population in the world.The town of Guling, the center of Lushan, can be approached by two highways starting at the foot of the mountain.
All the major scenic spots on the mountain are reached and connected by highways.
