The Kucha County is a county in the Sinkiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and is under the administration of the Aksu Prefecture. It contains an area of 15,200 squar km. According the 2002 census, it has a population of 450,000. It was once the home of an ancient Buddhist Kingdom of Kucha.
Kucha is famous for its musical instruments, such as lutes, drums,
harmonicas, and guitars. One establishment where they are still made by
hand is run by the affable Yasun Turap, who can usually be found
working in his tiny shop on the corner of Jiefang Road and Tianshan
Road at the Difang Shuiwuju.
