Naxi (also spelt Nakhi and Nahi) Ancient Music is a traditional Naxi Ethnic Group classical music.
The mixture of holy tune of Taoist, Confucians ceremonies and the literary lyric and topics from poets in Chinese Tang and Song dynasty comes as the feature and uniqueness of this music. This music used to consist three parts including several famous songs composed by the Tang emperor, Li Longji in the 8th century, the "Trigram Dance Music" and the "Rainbow-colored Feather Robe Dance".
The Trigram is a ceremonial piece which was first used to celebrate the opening of a Taoist hall in 741AD. Another imperial composition, "Waves Washing the Sand", was composed by the last emperor of the Southern Song dynasty, Li Yu, and was used to accompany the offering of incense to the gods at the Buddhist Great Grotto of Wenchang.
