To visit to Shanghai is incomplete without a stroll along the waterfront to experience the smells, sights and sounds of the old "Wall Street" in Shanghai.
The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road. It starts from the Baidu Bridge, which is at the connecting point of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek, to the East Jinling Road and winds a 1500 meters (less than one mile) length.
Walking along the Bund, which is at the west shore of the Huangpu River, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower can be seen on the opposite side and also the Jin Mao Tower. Being one of the Top Ten Shanghai Attractions. Banks, trading houses, residences, hotels and clubs all had a view of bustling Huangpu River traffic as they shared in the city´s rising and falling fortunes.
Features
The Bund is symbolic of Shanghai and provided even still provides a grand facade for those arriving in Shanghai by river.
At the west side of the Bund are the 52 various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance.
Many of old buildings, such as the Customs House, Bank of China, Peace Hotel and Shanghai Mansions still stand and are very much in use. The Bund is a really beautiful and special place which is worth visiting.
