Nightlife:
As the capital of China and an international city, Beijing has lots to offer the visiting traveler in terms of entertainment and fun.
Peking Opera
Peking Opera (Jingju) is a must see for all visitors to Beijing. It is an ingenious and colorful combination of elements from many sources: traditional music, poetry, song, recitation, dancing, acrobatics, and martial arts. Although it is called Peking Opera, its origins are in the provinces of Anhui and Hubei. The two main melodies of Peking Opera, Xi-Pi and Er-Huang, are derived from the operatic styles of Anhui and Hubei. It then adapted music and arias from other operas and musical arts in China. Liyuan Theater, Chang´an Grand Theater and Beijing Hu Guang Guild Hall are ideal place to experience the distinctive art.
Other alternatives include plays (mostly in Chinese) and performances of western classical music and opera. Last, if you need a good cold one or some good jazz or blues to relax to, then try the Sanlitun bar area.
