Brief Introduction
Situated in the Tianshan Mountain range, 115 km northeast of Urumqi, Tianchi Lake is one of the main tourist attractions in China.

The lake is hemmed in by majestic snow-crowned peaks west of Bogda Mountain and it is geologically a moraine lake with 3,400 meters long, 1,500 meters wide, and 1,980 meters above sea level.

This huge lake offers some excellent walking and horse riding with breathtaking views. Covered firs, pines and cypresses and white snow, it boasts a spectacular sight- reminiscent of Switzerland or the Rocky mountains but somehow with more vibrancy and color.

Amidst fields of wild flowers grow morel mushrooms, while peppermint and rhubarb, while higher up the mountain are edelweiss and the rare, creamy Snow Lotus, which grows from rock crevices and is believed to have magical powers as medical cure. One of the most pleasant aspects about exploring here is just being able to wander the lake and mountains at your own pace.

The Kazakhs bring their entire house, home and family with them when they set up base here. There are hundreds of Yurts built around the shores and slopes, surrounded by goats, sheep and horses. Kashmere goats and sheep are the main source of income for these people followed by tourism

In summer, the beautiful lake is an ideal cool resort. Boaters on the lake see the ever-changing silvery mountains soaring into the blue sky, their slopes highlighted with verdant pasture and flamboyant wild flowers. Fishing at dusk has its own special charm.
