Situated in Sandouping Town 38 kilometers of Yichang City, the Three Gorges Grand Dam is one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken by mankind as well as the largest of water conservancy project in the world.

The total duration of construction will last 17 years, divided into three stages. And now two stages have been finished. The third stage construction lasts 6 years from 2003 to 2009. From June 16th, 2003 all cruise ships will pass through the permanent Three Gorges ship locks.

The mighty Yangtze, winding through the heart land of China, presents tourists a new look with more historical and natural wonders. When the project is completed, it will provide China with tremendous power generation and flood control services. It will be the most important project functioning as a backbone in flood control system to protect the areas in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River.
