Chengdu Overview

With a history of over 2,300 years & lovely panda; Chengdu,the capital city of Sichuan is one of the most beautiful cities in China. It is also considered to be the cultural hub of southwest China. Because of its special economic strength and geographic location in southwest China, Chengdu has been an important political center through the centuries.
Chengdu, is also named in Rong Cheng in Chinese for its city flower of Furong(hibiscus) in Chinese.

Chengdu is a big city in China, with population of 14.17 million in 2012, and 6.7 million residents in central urban area.
Located in the west Sichuan Basin, Chengdu is in the in the middle section of the Minjiang River area, its elevation is 387m to 5364m, city center in elevation of around 500m, with 36.4% plain area, 30.4% hilly and 33.2% of mountain area.
Chengdu is a subtropical humid monsoon climate with distinct four seasons. It is no intense heat in summer and no severe cold in winter, the annual average temperature is 16.7 ° c. The annual average sunshine is 1071 hours, and annual average rainfall is 945.6 mm.
Being the capital of Sichuan, Chengdu is the political, economic and cultural center of Sichuan. Chengdu wins many honors in various fields. On February 8, 2007, Chengdu became the first batch of China's best tourist city; on August 8, 2011, Chengdu won “the top ten high quality life city”; on September 16, 2011, Chengdu is on the list of the most famous cultural city in China.
With the variety landscape and warm weather, Chengdu has rich biological resources and tourism resources, such as Snow Mountain, waterfall, grassland for travel; rare plants for visiting such rare gingko, dove tree, and rare animal of Giant Panda, Lesser Panda, and Golden Monkey.
Regarding the cuisine, Sichuan cuisine is the one of famous cuisine in China and gained great reputation. In 2010, UNESCO awarded Chengdu a title of Delicious Food City and formally approved Chengdu to join the UNESCO Creative City Network.
For night show, the must see in Chengdu would be Sichuan Opera. Sichuan Opera is known as the top opera in China with the incredible face changing and fire-breathing stunt which attract most visitors.
