With a history of more than 7,0000
years, Yichang city is a communication gullet of Sichuan and
Hubei provinces since ancient times. For a very long time, It
is known as the "Gateway of the three gorges". The
Ge Zhou Dam built by the end of 1970s is located here. And the
world well-known Yangtze Dam is only about 40km to the north
of this city. It is one of the best port to start the famous
Yangtze Cruise.

[Three Gorges Grand Dam]
Situated
in Sandouping Town 38 kilometers of Yichang City, the Three
Gorges Grand Dam is one of the largest construction projects
ever undertaken by mankind as well as the largest of water
conservancy project in the world. The total duration of construction
will last 17 years, divided into three stages. And now two
stages have been finished. The third stage construction lasts
6 years from 2003 to 2009. When the project is completed,
it will provide China with tremendous power generation and
flood control services. It will be the most important project
functioning as a backbone in flood control system to protect
the areas in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River.
