After Beijing won the bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, China Agricultural University(CAU) was the first university in line to apply to build and host an Olympic venue.
China's national football team, which captured the bronze medal at Doha, had several CAU students on the China roster. As the gymnasium is being built close to student residences, long-term use is almost naturally assured.
During next summer's Olympic Games, the China Agricultural University Gymnasium will host the Wrestling events.
The 23,950 square-metre venue can hold 8500 spectators and all architecture material for the gymnasium has been certified as environmentally-friendly. Electricity consumption of the gymnasium is 30 percent less than a typical structure of its size usual thanks to the use of terrestrial heat wells and natural lighting.
Teachers and students from the university's departments of water conservancy and civil engineering conducted research on the collection and use of rainwater on the building's rooftop which is being cycled into the building's structure for use in building maintenance and exterior irrigation. |
