The Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium will host the Badminton and Rhythmic Gymnastics competitions. The gymnasium is the only Olympic venue in located in Southeast Beijing and is regarded as a highlight of the university and the surrounding residential community.

The gymnasium has 7500 seats and spans some 24000 square metres. Five ring-shaped tightwires surround a round roof while the 56 tightwires (representing the 56 nationalities of China) are connected to the five rings.

BJUT's Gymnasium has a pre-stressed suspend-dome with the widest span reaching 93 metres. One hundred kilogrammes of steel has been used for every square metre of roof ... where an ordinary steel structure would require 300 kilogrammes.

Coustruction of the BJUT Olympic venue provided the opportunity for school teachers and students to show off their engineering achievements. Exhaustive model experiments of the venue prior to construction were conducted to ensure the safety of new structure. Financial support for the facility was made possible by the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission.
