Venue: National Indoor Stadium
Location: Olympic Green
Total land surface: 80,900 sq m
Competitions: Artistic Gymnastics, Trampolines, and Handball;
Groundbreaking date: May 28, 2005
From the outset, the National Indoor Stadium is modest and demure.
The square-shaped venue sports a roof that will have a simple structure akin to that of an ancient Chinese coin. Since there will be two visually-striking venues already in the forefront of the Olympic Green complex, designers sought simplicity in their design for the gymnastics, trampoline and handball.
The competition area will have a floor space of 3000 square metres and seating capacity of 20000.
Among the three major venues, the National Indoor Stadium will be the only one whose design is presided over by Chinese architects.
All required technical specifications, such as that exercise and main competition halls must be at the same level or avoiding changes to the air and terrain of the floor, have been closely followed.
