Kizil Gaha Beacon Tower

Kizil Gaha Beacon Tower Travel Guide

Kizil Gaha Beacon Tower locates at 10 kilometers southeast of Kucha County, 260 kilometers from Aksu City, reached by 217 National Road. The tower was built in Han Dynasty (202 B.C.-220 A.D.), with the bottom shaped rectangle, 6 meters' long and 4 meters' wide. Due to the natural erosion and weathering, the upper central part of the beacon tower was concaved. The tower, majestic and straight, was earliest-built and well-preserved beacon tower in ancient Silk Road. Its prime location at north of Silk Road makes it a valuable tourism destination in Xinjiang.

Using Beacon to spread situation can be ranged to Zhou Dynasty in 3000 years ago. It was regulated that governors must troop to rescue the emperor who set beacon fire and fight the enemy together. In order to make the beacon and smoke straightly went up, the ancient people burned the wolves’ dung instead of wood. So, beacon was also known as smoke of wolves' dung.

Kizil Kagha Beacon Tower was listed into national Cultural Relic, and ranked the only one Beacon Tower in relics.
