Shan Hua Temple

Shan Hua Temple Travel Guide

Brief Introduction
The Shan Hua Temple is located inside of the southern gate of Datong City and was originally founded in 713 A.D.during the Tang Dynasty.

The buildings of the temple were destroyed by war in history, and were rebuilt during the Jin Dynasty (1115 A.D.-1234A.D.). It was one of the best preserved temples during that dynasty, covering an area of nearly 14, 000 square meters.

The Shan Hua Temple has three main buildings, the Gate, the Hall of the Three Saints, and Da Xiong Bao Dian which is the most important building in this temple.

In addition to its great historic and architectural value, the Shan Hua Temple also holds a significant place in the Buddhist religion.

The rear Hall of Mahavira contains five central Buddhas and expressive statues of celestial generals in the wings. A small dragon screen stands in a western courtyard, moved here from the South Gate.
