Overhanging Great Wall Travel Guide

Located on the north slope of Heishan Mountain at the north side of the Shiquan Gorge entrance, 8 km to the north of Jiayuguan Pass, this section of the Great Wall was built in 1539 of the Ming Dynasty. The wall falls steeply downfrom the mountain ridge, as if it overhangs and blocks the Shiguan Gorge entrance, hence the name of "Overhanging Great Wall". Now only a section of wall is left, which is 4 meters wide on the bottom, 2 meters wide on the top and 0.5-6 meters tall. on the top os the wall there are battlements and parapets. On both ends there i a beacon tower. Steps are paved on the first tower and along the slope. Climbing up the steps, visitors are walking as if on flat ground on level places but climbing cliffs on precipitous places.
