Dried meat of yak and sheep, ghee, cashmere, decorations
Naqu is a small Tibetan city in northern Tibet; commerce here in Naqu is not well developed but you can also purchase some specialties and souvenirs as gift to your family or friends. The main shopping area are Qiangtang market, Naqu market, Renmin shopping market on Zhejiangzhong Road and Livestock products market on Gaoyuan Road. Most shops and stores in Naqu are gathering on these two streets with a large flow of people relatively and a great variety of specialties and souvenirs.
Dried Meats
Dried meats in Naqu are mostly yak meat and mutton. Tibetan will make dried meats while the temperature below zero in the end of a year. Firstly, pickled the raw meats (some will seasoned with salt and others without salt), then cut the meat in strips and hang on shadow place to dry naturally in the air. After more than two months drying, the meats will be edible in next February or March.
Cheese and Ghee
Located on grassland area on northern Tibet, Naqu is not only rich in dried yak meats and mutton meats, but also milk, cheese and ghee. The cheese and ghee in Naqu are in high quality due to the nature pasture and good environment. Tourists purchase some for taste or take some as souvenir if you like when you travelling in Naqu.
