Thangdok Monastery Travel Guide

Thangdok Monastery was one of the first built monasteries during Tibetan Empire (618-842 AD) and its treasure is a Thangka made by 29,026 pearls and other gemstone. There are some other translation of this monastery, so it is also be called Trandruk Temple or Trundruk Monastery.

Thangdok Monastery located on the south foot of Mt. Kampot, 2 KM to downtown Tsetang; it is a Gelug (Dge-lugs-pa) Section temple; the structure is the type of Jokhang Monastery but much smaller.

Here you could enjoy a special Pearl Thangka named "Arya Avalokiteshvara Sitting-out" which was made during the 14th century by the queen of Nedong. The Pearl Thangka is 2 *1.2 m, used 29,026 pearls, 1 diamond, 1 sapphire, 2 rubies, 27.5g Amethyst, 185 kallaites (45.5g), 15.5g gold and 1,997 corallines (205g).

Except this treasure, you could also view K'o-ssy Thangka of Sakyamuni, sorcerer's dance mask, wall painting, bronze bell, ect. here.
