The Grand Canal Travel Guide

The Grand Canal of Suzhou Section is one of the Grand Canal of Beijing and Hangzhou, and also a well-preserved section. It looks like a jade belt encircling Suzhou ancient city. Thanks to the canal, Suzhou became a paradise for for the merchants in ancient time.
There are many other famous historical sites alongside the canal, such as Suzhou Ancient City Wall, Pan Gate, Guxu Gate, etc. Suzhou government protects the canal with great efforts and measures. The canal is now not only a green corridor in Suzhou, but also connects some historical sites, becomes a popular scenic spot in Suzhou.

The ancient water town Suzhou is famous for the Grand Canal, which was built in Shui Dynasty (581- 618 A.D.). The Grand Canal is about 1794 kilometers long, starting from Hangzhou in the south to Beijing in the north, through four provinces Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hebei and two municipality cities Tianjin and Beijing city. It is the longest and oldest canal in the world, known as the two greatest projects in Chinese history.

You can enjoy the cruise on the Grand Canal. The ancient Suzhou city and the swaying willow are reflected in the clear water. When cruising on it you will appreciate the ancient Suzhou's gentle and delicate.

Traffic:

From railway station, you can take bus No. 522 to Xinshiqiao north station, and the canal is in 2-min walking way. Also you can take bus No. 602, 305, 47, 522, 70, 7, 5, and 39 in the city directly to the Grand Canal.

There are cruises on the Grand Canal, takes about 1 hour.
