Feihong Colored Glaze Pagoda Travel Guide

Feihong Colored Glaze Pagoda is one of the five existing Buddhist Relics pagoda in China. It is not only with craftsman's inscription, but also the most complete five color glazed pagoda.

Feihong Colored Glaze Pagoda in on the peak of Guangsheng Temple, Hongtong county of Shanxi Province. It was first built as Asoka pagoda in Han Dynasty; the exsiting pagoda now was built from 1516 to 1527 in Ming Dynasty. The pagoda is octagonal, it is a 47.6 meters high pavilion style pagoda with 13 eaves, except the wooden corridor on the bottom floor, the other parts of the pagoda were made of blue bricks. The whole body was decorated by colored glaze, it is as colorful as rainbow after rain, that is why it is called "Feihong Pagoda" in Chinese which means "Flying rainbow pagoda". The most beautiful colored glaze are from 1st to 3rd floors. There are many carve decoration such as Bodhisattva, Virudhaka, Dhrtarastra, Virupaksa, Dhanada, Great Vajras, pavilions, lotus, phoenix, lion, elephant, etc.

Another treasure of this pagoda is a scripture named "Zhao Cheng Jin Zang". It is the first edition woodcut printing Tripitaka in Song Dynasty (960-1279 BC). The total scriptures are 6980 rolls, more than 60000000 charactors. Now, more than 4000 rolls found in Feihong Colored glaze pagoda.
