Xinghai Park Travel Guide
Located in the south part of Dalian proper, this seaside park includes a bathing beach. covering 150,000 square meters, is next to a curve beach that is about 800 meters long. In the park there are numerous trees and flowers. A stone-paved path connects all the pavilions, including Wanghai Pavilion and Haiyan Pavilion. On the eastern and western tips of the park are cliffs. Standing on the cliffs, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sea. The Xinghai Park Beach is excellent for swimming.
The park is decorated with shrubs and groves arranged in various patterns. Paved walks link the pavilions one to anther. There is a case in the East Little Hill in which a flight of stone steps leads down to the sea. Outside the cave stands a rock named "Star Rock". The story goes that long, long ago there was a fight between the snake-headed fish and the shark. The Black-Stone Star came to assist the snake-headed fish in the fighting. He threw a huge rock at the Shark and pressed the shark down to the bottom of the sea. This rock is said to be the Star Rock now standing outside the cave in the hill by the sea. Thus the park was given the name Xinghai (Star-Sea) Park. As typical urban beach park, it¡¯s composed of a 800-meter-long bow-shaped bathing beach and a 150,000m2 land garden. Lawns, trees, flowers, oyster and fountains, all make up the park¡¯s appeal to Dalian natives and visitors alike, offering them an ideal place to bath, swim, stroll, dive, camp, boat, fish or barbecue£®
