Wetland at the Estuary of the Minjiang River and Rieverside Scenic Gallery Travel Guide

The Wetland at the Estuary of the Minjiang River lies at the juncture of Tantou Town and Meihua Town in Changle City. The wetland of 3,100 hectares is an important winter habitat of migratory birds and a home to many water birds and rare endangered birds.More than 50,000 water birds from East Asia and Australia stop on their way of migration at the wetland in winter. There are 1,084 fauna and flora species in this area.

Zheng He (1371-1433), a great navigator living in the Ming Dynasty, had his fleet in the wetland waiting for suitable winds on his seven voyages to the Western Seas. Changle city government built a three-kilometer-long gallery along the river in memory of Zheng He. The gallery radiates from the Zheng He Square to the Memorial Hall of Zheng He's Voyages, Zheng He's Statue and the spot where Zheng He's fleet lifted anchor. It is also decorated with various kinds of flowering plants, lawns, banyan trees, mango trees, and palm trees.
