Hami Overview

Hami meaning the Gate in Uygur language, today is the eastern gateway to Xinjiang, a rich oasis in the midst of a seemingly endless desert, and famous throughout China for its “Hami melon”. Historically, Hami has always been an important part of the Silk Road, occupying one of the few fertile spots between Gansu and Turpan. It is a convenient to reach Hami from Urumqi, Turpan, Xian and Zhengzhou.
There are more than 20 nationalities in Hami, including Uygur, Han, Hui, Kazak, Manchu and Mongolia. Located in the Mid-latitude the Eurasian hinterland, Hami has various landscapes as Gobi, desert, oasis, some everglades, Yardang landform and grassland. The main attractions in Hami are Hui King Mansion, Hui King Mausoleum, Wubao Ghost City , Lapuqiaoke Ancient City, Barkol grassland, Barkol Lake and White Stone Scenic Area(grassland and everglade).
Tips: The best time for visiting Hami is from July to September.
