The Giant Buddha or Grand Buddha of Leshan

The Giant Buddha or Grand Buddha of Leshan Travel Guide

The Giant Buddha (Grand Buddha) of Leshan, carved out of a hillside in the 8th century and looking down on the confluence of three rivers: Dadu River, Min River, Qingyi River, at 71 m high, it is the largest Buddha in the world. Its shoulders are 28 meters broad and its head is 14.7 meters long and 10 meters broad.

It took 90 years to complete this mammoth project, started from 713 A.D, completed in 803 A.D. Inside the body of the Giant Buddha, hidden from view, is a water-drainage system put into place to prevent weathering, although the stone statue has had its fare share of it. A pavilion used to shelter the Giant Buddha, but the building was destroyed during Ming Dynasty.

It was worth looking at the Giant Buddha from several angles from certain distance. Or you can also have a boat cruise pass by for a front view of it.
