Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Travel Guide

Brief Introduction
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, located 15km north of Lijiang city with an altitude of 5600 meters (18,400 feet), is the highest mountain on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. The mountain extends 35 km from south to north and 12 km from west to east, producing different altitudes in the mountain. The summit, Shanzidou, is 5596 meters above sea level. Owing to conspicuous three-dimensional climate caused by different altitude, various trees and rare animals living in different climates can live together in this mountain.
The Ganhaizi Grassland is a famous tourist resort situated on the eastern slope of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, an ideal spot to view from the mountain. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a holy mountain for the local Naxi people and now is a famous scenic spot for sightseeing, mountaineering, skiing, exploration, scientific research and taking holiday.
Features

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a sanctuary for rare animals and wild plants. In fact, one fourth of all plant species in China can be found here and 20 prim forest communities shelter a big family of 400 types of trees and 30 kinds of animals which are protected by the state.

Main scenic sports in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Scenic Area:
Glacier Park
On the North of the main peak of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, it is the geomorphic relic of the quaternary glacier.
Blue Moon Valley (White Water River)
The name Blue Moon Valley is from the book "Lost Horizon", because the view in the book just like the view here in the east valley of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain -- the snow mountain melted into clear water, in the sunny day, the water is blue and the valley shape like a moon.
It get its another name White Water River because the clay under the water is white, after rain, the river will turn white.
And there is another saying, there are 4 lakes in the valley named "Yuye (Jade Water)"  "Jingtan (Mirror)"  "Lanyue (Blue Moon)" and "Tingtao (Listening the Waves )".
Gan Haizi Lake
Haizi Means lake in plateau section, and Gan means "dry", so total means a dry lake. Gan Haizi is in the east foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, it is a large meadow with 4 km on length and 1.5 km on width. Here you could see the 13 peak of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. And the tourist center is also located here.
Yunshanping (Spruce Meadow)
Yunshanping is on the altitude of 3240 meters, it is a meadow surround by spruce forest, here is a nice point to take a close look of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Maoniuping (Yak Meadow)
Maoniuping is on the altitude of 3700 meters, it is the best place to view all 13 peak of  Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
