Nagqu Travel Guide

Naqu Overview

Naqu county is located on centre of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau in the region of east longitude 91 ° 12 '- 93 ° 02', and north latitude 30 ° 31 '- 31 ° 55', in the northern Tibet, with average altitude of over 4,500m, bordering Changdu prefecture in east, Lhasa, Nyingchi and Shigatse in south, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Qinghai province in north. Naqu, also known as Nakchu in Tibetan, means “black river”. Naqu covers an area of 40 square kilometers of land which be popular as Qiangtang for nomads.

Naqu has rich tour resource including Qiangtang grassland,(Changtang Prairie ), the heaven lake of Namsto, Siling Co Lake, snow mountain and Naqu Horse Racing Festival on annul August.
 The best time for visting Naqu is from May to September for warm and clean weather as well as flourishing grass and blooming flowers.
