Nyingchi Overview

Nyingchi, also known as Linzhi, is a prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region in China, named as “Throne of Sun” in Tibetan because of sun rises in Nyingchi for most Tibetan people for its southeast location, bordered Yunnan province Diqing prefecture (Shangri-La) in east, Changdu prefecture of Tibet northeast, Nakchu in north, Lhasa in west, Shannan prefecture in southwest, and India and Burma in south.
Nyingchi is situated in the southeast of Tibet Autonomous Region in China embraced by Himalayan Mountains and Nyainqen Tanglha Range in south of Qinghai-Tibet plateau extending from west to east and Hengduan Mountain in east and southeast bordering Sichuan and Yunnan in China. Nyingchi prefecture is also well-known as “Switzerland of Tibet” and “An abundant picturesque place like areas south of the Yangtze River in Tibet”.
Nyingchi prefecture has set up in 1986 administered seven counties in Tibet including Nyingchi County, Gongbo'gyamda County, Mainling County, Mêdog County,,Zayü County and Nang County, covered an area of 117,000 square kilometers with population of about 173,000.

Located in the downstream of Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra), Nyingchi has an average elevation of 3,000 meters, lowest in only 900 meters which provided warm and humid climate and delightful landscape and scenery in Nyingchi. The main attractions in Nyching are Lulang forest, Baksum Tso Lake(Basum Lake), Niyang River, Yarlung Tsangpo River, Kadinggou Scenic Spot, Nnamjagbarwa Mountain, Giant Cypress Nature reserve in Bajie and so on, attracted more and more visitors from home and aboard for its primitive natural landscape and Tibetan ethnic culture.

Best Time for visiting
The best time to visit Nyingchi is spring and autumn. It is warm and clear in March Nyingchi in full blooming flowers. Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival on 15th March attracted many tourists travelling to Nyingchi. In autumn, Nyingchi is became a fairyland with golden pine forest, verdurous canyon and white snow mountains.
