Zhan Qiao Pier Travel Guide

Zhan Qiao Pier is a symbol of Qingdao City. It is located in the south of the city, north end of Qingdao Bay; northern end is connected to  Zhongshan Road.

Zhan Qiao Pier was first built in 1892 AD, completed in 1893 AD. The pier 200 meter long and  10 meters wide, gray-stone base, with iron fence on both sides.It is the Qingdao oldest dedicated artificial military pier. The pier was expanded in May 1901, the northern section was rebuilt to concrete pavement, and the length was extended to 350 meters to the south. The extension was built of steel and wood, it also increased a light railway for transportation. from Sep. 1931 to Apr. 1933, Zhan Qiao Pier was expanded again, the part of Steel and wood structure was converted into 34 rows of reinforced concrete and concrete pavement. The deck was extended to 440 meters and the height was rised 0.4 meter. At the southern, a semicircle breakwaters was built, and a Chinese traditional style double cornices octagonal pavilion was built in the breakwaters, it is named Hui Lan Ge.

After several renovation and remodeling, the Zhan Qiao Pier now is 401.45 meters long, include 236.1 meter approach bridge, 149.7 meter arch bridge and 15.65 meter triangle bridge to Hui Lan Ge.

Hui Lan Ge occupies 151 square meters and with a total construction area 240 square meters. It surrounded by 24 round pillars and there are two circular hall in it; in the center, there are 24 steps spiral staircase. You could have a panoramic view on the Hui Lan Ge.
