Wuhan Overview

Wuhan, han for short, is the capital of Hubei province, named from its three parts of Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang, located on junction of Yangtze rive and Han River which is the center of China inland, east part of Hubei province. Wuhan is the center of culture, finance, commerce and physical distribution in Hubei even China inland .  As the biggest international modern city in middle China with and a virtual transportation junction around China where can easily reach to Beijing in north, Shanghai in east, Guangzhou in south and Chengdu in west, Wuhan takes an important role in ancient China and China nowadays.

With a population of 7.3 million and an area of 8,467 square kilometers, as one of the most important cities in China, Wuhan is the largest city as well as the center of economy, culture and politics in Central China. The city is divided into 3 parts by the famous Yangtze River and the Hanshui River. It is a very important port for the Yangtze River.

Wuhan is rich in culture and history. The city has history of more than 3,500 years established in Spring and Autumn Period. In the period of Pre-Qin (770 B.C. - 221 B.C.), Wuhan was the land of Chu Kingdom which created splendid Jinchu Civilization, continuatively effected people today . The Bronze Vessel in Hubei Provincial Museum collected over 200,000 artifacts excavated from ancient tombs including art crafts of Chu Kingdom. Tourists can watch the exhibition and admire the brilliant ancient culture in the land. Later merchants followed the great Yangtze River and lake network to expand businesses throughout the entire country, brought more communicate chance between Wuhan and other parts in China and more people especially poets and scholars visited Wuhan later.  In Tang Dynasty, the Yellow Crane Tower became famous because of a great poem which vividly described his despondent mood after saw his friend leave on Yellow Crane Tower.  Guiyuan Buddhist Temple is one of the four temples in Wuhan, established in 1658 of Qing dynasty with history of over four hundred years, attracted mang counties’leaders including the King Norodom Sihanouk from Cambodian, the former secretary of United State Mr. Henry Alfred Kissinger and the former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Being completed in 15th October 1957, Yangtze River Bridge is the first highway-railway bridge over the Yangtze River. There, you can admire the great technique of Chinese as well as the grand nature scenery around. Besides historical relics, there are many beautiful nature scenary in Wuhan such as East Lake, Heptachord Terrac,Mo Hill and so on.
