Tiantang Temple

Tiantang Temple Travel Guide

Located in Tiantang Town of west Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County and with mountains at the back in the east, west and north, the temple is adjacent to Jiading Tibetan Town, Huzhu Tu Autonomous County of Qing Province in the south. Built between 806 and 820 in the Tang Dynasty, it was first named “Yuangzhuang Temple”. Destroyed several times, it was reconstructed in 1639 in the Ming Dynasty and renamed “Tiantang Temple”. Covering an area of over 1 million square meters, it consists of 14 Buddhist halls, 40 halls for chanting Buddhist scriptures, 300 courtyards for monks and more than 4,000 rooms. The buildings are of various forms, constituting a magnificent architecture complex of Han and Tibetan ethnic group. Moreover, the temple also offers courses of Buddhist of cultural relics in the temple, including statues, sculptures, frescoes, scriptures, ritual implements as well as Tibetan classics and historic materials of block printed or handwritten copies.
