Xishuangbanna Transportation
Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture is located in southwest Yunnan Province, with Jinghong city is the capital city. Being next to Thailand and Vietnam, Xishuangbanna is famous for its magical natural scenery of tropical rain forest and ethnic minorities’ charms. Although Xishuangbanna is about 600 kilometers (373 miles) from Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, it can be reachable by air and coach.
By Air:
Jinghong Airport, also named Xishuangnanna Airport, is located in Jinghong city, being about 5 kilometers southwest from urban area. It has opened 18 domestic airlines and 3 international airlines, connecting Xishuangbanna with domestic cities of Kunming, Lijiang, Dali, Chengdu, Chongqing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Beijing, Guiyang, Urumqi, Wuhan, Changsha, Mangshi and Shangri-La, and foriegn cities of Bangkok and Chiengmai in Thailand and Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos. By Bus:
The highway network is okay, with national road 213 and 214 converging in Jinghong City. The highway network covers most of villages and towns in Xishuangbanna, and there are 3 highways connecting Xishuangnanna with Burma and Thailand.
There are 3 long-distance bus stations in Jinghong City: Jinghong North Long-Distance Bus Station, Jinghong South Long-Distance Bus Station and Jinghong Long-Distance Bus Station. Jinghong North Long-Distance Bus Station is the largeest one, and international schedule buses to Laos are available in Jinghong South Long-Distance Bus Station. The scenic spots are not concentrated. There are buses departing to every county, town and most scenic spots in Xishuangbanna. Passengers should read the sign on the bus and the bus route carefully, in case of taking a wrong bus.
By Boat:
"Lancang-Mekong" is the sixth long river in the world, flowing across six countries, and known as the "Oriental Danube", it's a famous international waterway. Jinghong Port is a national harbor made up of three docks of Jinghong, Ganlanba and Guanlei. Jinghong port is for waterway, and has opened water transport routes to Chiang Saen, Thailand and Luang Prabang, Laos.
Transport between Kunming and Xishuangbanna:
Xishuangbana is about 700 kilometers from Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province. Because the road consists of many turns and mountain road, it takes more time to finish the course, about 18 hours. Most long-distance coaches running from Kunming to Xishuangbanna are set off night sleeping cars. Every day there are about 20 long-distance coaches departing to Xishuangbanna. The ticket price is 145 yuan and it takes 18 hours; while the ticket price for a high-speed coach is 150 yuan with 16-hour drive.
